Only 1 hour from Malaga airport, situated above a 32km long lake, is the old Spanish town of Iznajar,
with its lovely white washed houses and narrow winding lanes. Iznajar
has an 8th century castle while its church dates from the 18th
century. A leisurely climb up to the castle is rewarded with views that
are spectacular and there are always local cafés & bars for some
refreshment on the way!
Las Chozas village is 25 minutes from the autovia, 50 minutes from Granada and the Alhambra palace and 2 hours from Sevilla& Cordoba, making it ideally situated for sightseeing. A day trip to Gibraltar or Morocco is also possible with a reasonably early start.
Less well known places to visit include the natural park of El Torcal, the wolf sanctuary at Lobo Park and the Roman town of Antequera
complete with ancient Dolmens and golf course. Fuente de Piedra’s lake
with its breeding colony of wild flamingos is also worth a visit.
Pony trekking is available locally or visit the sandy beach on the shores of the lake, where safe bathing is enjoyed along with fishing and other water sports. An hours drive will take you to the more sophisticated beaches of the Costa del Sol.
Alternatively laze by the pool and then wander to the local bar for tapas, Or simply relax amid the olive groves.
